INTENSivE Seminars: your Breakthrough Nodes

As a language learner, you need to learn both steadily and intensely.

For the intense part: the jump forward, the breakthrough experience, nothing beats the intensive seminar. Why?

Because – basically the intensive seminar is a survival experience. It proves to you that you can function in the language learnt, at the intense pace set – with results – and fun!

Such a breakthrough experience is necessary at four moments of your total learning experience:

when you move from basic knowledge to incipient communication: you actually start expressing yourself in the language (CEF: pre-A1 to A1 (“Breakthrough”)),

when you are about to reach a rhythm, a pace acceptable to the average native speaker (CEF: “Strong Waystage” (A2+) to “Threshold” (B1)),

when you are getting into professional “high gear”, getting used to deploying your mastery in various communicative settings (CEF: “Vantage +” (B2) to “Strong Vantage” (B2+)),

when you want to broaden your mastery of the cultural context and scope of the language (CEF: “Operational Profiency” (C1) to “Mastery” (C2)).

We provide language seminars for professionals who wish to go through this “upgrading” experience – thereby exponentially increasing their communicative versatility.

In Brussels, Antwerp, Liège, Ghent…

Our seminar "base camp" is Brussels, the “capital of Europe”.

Brussels provides almost ideal language learning surroundings, being highly cosmopolitan yet of “manageable size” (about 1.75 million people live in the wider metropolitan area), at the confluence of Germanic and Latin cultural influences (as is Belgium as a whole), infused by centuries of history, full of Gothic and Baroque monuments of the 13th through 17th centuries, and one of the world's Art Nouveau capitals.

Of all this, we, and you when you join our seminar, are at a walking distance, as our premises are located at the rim of Brussels' famous heart-shaped downtown area:

We provide seminars in many languages, but foremost in Dutch, French, English and Arabic.

Our French- and Dutch-language seminars may also include excursions to nearby Liège, and Antwerp or Ghent respectively.

For our English and Arabic seminars we immerse ourselves into the thriving international English- and Arabic-speaking communities of the European capital.

It is the richness of Belgium's historical and cultural urban environment – not to forget its culinary tradition! – that allows us to defend a
unique value-for-money proposal:

in these splendid surroundings we are “no-frills” with respect to accommodation and logistics,

while providing “the real stuff”: top-quality language learning coaching.

Entering "Tweedknowe"…

…North Holland… …the Scottish Borders…

But our seminars also take place outside our Brussels "base camp".

For our
Dutch-language intensives we often migrate to our North Holland "base camp" in Wognum, where Ada and Siem of Wijngaard Saalhof accommodate us with an excellent Bed & Breakfast arrangement, the delicious produce of their own winery, and – last but definitely not least – the warmth and sincerity of their welcome.

Wognum sits half way between the North Sea and the inland Ijsselmeer lake, enchanting you with the beautiful light-infused vistas of North Holland (or West Frisia) where wind-battered elm hedges separate the magnificent Frisian farms with their pyramid-shaped roofs.

For our
English-language intensives Doug Swan has set up his "base camp" in Tweedknowe, a beautiful property near Melrose in the Scottish Borders. Melrose, which sits at the foot of the Eildon Hills, is a picturesque and prestigeous Borders markettown, about 30 miles south of Edinburgh.

Rosslyn Chapel (Holy Grail/ Da Vinci Code), Sir Walter Scott, Robert the Bruce and William Wallace are just some of the people and places associated with this part of Scotland.

The magnificent rural setting makes Melrose an ideal location for study and learning, and the nearness to so much history and attractions is an added bonus.

Doug Swan and Mirian Haas welcome you in Tweedknowe's elegant lounge, library and individually themed bedrooms. They justifiedly pride themselves on their personalised and focused service.

A Breakthrough Experience because:

we always use the professional and personal challenges, dreams, goals of the participants' lives as starting point for language development and enrichment,

we work with all possible techniques to prompt participants' practice and hone the quality of their expression,

we deftly alternate facilitated conversational practice with tutored self-studying moments,

we combine “walk-as-we-talk” sightseeing in order to stimulate conversation with time-chunks for study (“French conjugations at a bistrot table”),

we are always extremely flexible as to daily schedule and the nature and order of activities, moulding the seminar around the creativity and energy levels of the participants at any given moment,

we weave together group discussion sessions, duo-learning sessions, and personal counsel,

we do so in accordance with whichever of the 4 above-mentioned language development stages.

Bed & Breakfast with a chat, & superb food:

Conference centres are, in our opinion, expensive and boring.

Our students are hosted by locals, in peaceful and personalised surroundings and genuine houses, with excellent Belgian breakfasts (morning chat included), and at a walking distance from the seminar sites. And at an affordable price! Such as
70 Traversière Bed&Breakfast:

During the day then, we meet:

at LTC-Circuit's offices,

at the mythical “Bibliothèque”, an intellectually stimulating environment nearby,

at various peaceful public environments during occasional excursions.

At lunch, a simple sandwich or salad with a soft drink proves sufficient.

Especially so since we take our evening meals at
da Gino's, a legend in itself in Brussels – a small popular restaurant with superb meals (expertly mixing Belgian, French, Italian and Portuguese cuisine) and arguably the best quality/price ratio in town – thanks to Gino's unsurpassed cooking and his brother's home-grown vegetables and herbs.

Gino just loves to cook for his friends and we are happy to count ourselves among them.

After dinner, we lounge on at Gino's with an occasional evening language-centred activity, attend a cultural event (e.g. going to the theatre), or just have a free evening to discover Brussels by ourselves.

For further information

Our intensive seminars exist both as in-company and as open seminars.

Thanks to our creative B&B and evening meal solution, we can offer a day's accommodation at an average of 120 EUR per person. Yet, hotel and conference venue arrangements can always be provided for in-company formulas.

Our original accommodation formula allows us to enhance the quality of the language coaching itself for which we quote sharp prices.
